Three Nocturnes

$20.00

Keith Humble

For choir and piano

Keith Humble's three Nocturnes for choir and piano were written in 1988 for John McCaughey and The Astra Choir and first performed by them with Kim Bastin, piano - the first two on 25th May 1990 in the Old Customs House, Melbourne, and the third on 27th July 1997 at Northcote Town Hall. The first complete performance of the cycle, in an 'occasional' arrangement for chamber ensemble, was given by Astra on 7th September 2003 at Gasworks Theatre, Melbourne. Humble's version for choir and chamber ensemble is unpublished and unperformed at present.

The texts are taken from a set of translations of poems (tsu) by the ninth-century Chinese poet Wen T'ing-Yun, made by Humble's friend J.J.Y. Liu and originally published in the British literary periodical The Adelphi.

Nocturne 3 is also published separately as Astra Score 3.
