Parvati / Celebrations of the Apsaras

$20.00

Helen Gifford

For solo B-flat and E-flat clarinets

Helen Gifford's travels to India early in her creative life have had a lasting influence on various aspects of her music. Parvati is Shiva's second consort who tended him in his cave while in grief at the death of his wife, then experiences years of penance in the wilderness before renewal and well-being. The Apsaras are celestial beings who surround the gods.

The works were written for Australian clarinettist Craig Hill and premiered by him in an Astra concert on 10th November 2013 at North Melbourne Town Hall.

Transcribed by Kim Bastin.
