Desperation, for viola solo

$20.00

Helen Gifford

"The nature of desperation is the idea behind this piece. A life may have many desperations. There are the small ones such as when the water company digs up the old main in your street over a four-week period, using pounding, drilling and roaring machines, while major desperations mark you more permanently and can have a calamitous effect that leaves you without hope. This sometimes leads to hyper-activity, or else its complete opposite, a paralysing numbness. Something of these two extremes, and the stages between, was my thinking for the work." - Helen Gifford

This publication was produced for a first performance by Phoebe Green at a concert of the Astra Chamber Music Socieity at the Church of All Nations, Melbourne, on 19 April 2015.
