NEXT CONCERT - Elliott Carter at 100
Sunday 7th December, 7 pm The Astra Choir and soloists, brass ensemble, Speak Percussion, keyboards, conducted by John McCaughey The final Astra concert for 2008 celebrates a unique musical occasion – the 100th birthday on December 11 of the American composer Elliott Carter, who has had a major impact on music of the last century. The concert presents the second world performance of his new work Tintinnabulation for percussion ensemble, composed at the age of 99, along with his virtuosic Brass Quintet. The 17th-century context of Monteverdi, Gabrieli and Schütz forms a wider background to Carter’s music in the concert – reflecting his affinity with the spatial theatre and dramatic text-setting of the early-Baroque era.
